Flaresat

Flaresat is a live group mapping app for iOS, Android, and web that integrates with Meshtastic radios for off-grid position tracking and mesh communication.

Overview

Flaresat gives your group a shared map with live member positions, pins, drawn routes, and zone markers — all in one view. When you have internet access, data syncs over the cloud. When you don't, it runs over your Meshtastic LoRa mesh. The same app handles both modes without switching.

It is not a replacement for the official Meshtastic app. It works alongside it, using your existing Meshtastic radio and channel configuration to pull positions and messages into a richer map interface.

Features

  • Live group tracking — See all group members moving in real-time on a shared map
  • Drop pins — Mark meetup spots, parking, hazards, or points of interest with names and descriptions
  • Draw routes — Trace paths, trails, or evacuation routes directly on the map
  • Mark zones — Shade areas like search grids, camping sections, or venue boundaries
  • Map chat — Send and receive messages overlaid on the map without switching apps
  • Breadcrumb trails — Record your path as you move so others can retrace it
  • Multiple groups — Create separate maps for different trips or teams; data never leaks between groups
  • Offline-first — Maps and data are cached locally so the app keeps working in dead zones

Meshtastic Integration

Pair Flaresat with any Meshtastic-compatible LoRa radio to use the mesh features:

  • Live position tracking over the mesh without cell service
  • Mesh chat rendered on the map
  • AES-256 encrypted communication
  • Supports up to 8 radio channels
  • Self-healing mesh — if one node drops, the network reroutes automatically
  • Compatible with all standard Meshtastic hardware

Use Cases

Flaresat is used for hiking, skiing, overlanding, search and rescue coordination, hunting, festivals, group travel, and any other scenario where knowing where your group is matters.

Support for Flaresat should be sought from the Flaresat team directly, not from the Meshtastic project.
